THE ABORTED RAPE

“Phil,” Emma called after her husband as he walked towards his car. “Yes, sweetheart. What can I do for you?” She moved towards him. “Well, sorry to bother you, but I need a little favour,” she said, beaming. He lifted his eyebrows in mock surprise to which she laughed heartily. “Tell me then,” he urged. “Well my friend, Nadia- I’ve not introduced her to you yet. She needs a temporary job for three months as she seeks for a permanent job. I would appreciate it if you could let her be a second receptionist at your firm.” Philip Boakye was a successful chartered accountant and co-partner at Boakye & Schandorf, a popular accounting firm. “Let me think about it.” He gave her a peck on the cheek and got behind the wheel. Two weeks later, Phil had Nadia employed. His wife, Emma had given his office number to Nadia. Nadia had called him and he had asked her to see one of his staff. He hadn’t bothered to even see who Nadia was. After all, he would see her soon, right? Moreover, she won’t be staying in the firm for long. He was only doing his wife a favour. Anything for Emma. A week later, Phil closed late from work. He called Emma and told her he won’t be in early. It was Friday and he had planned on taking her out. Though he didn’t tell her. He wanted to surprise her. As he drove towards the gate, he honked his car horn. The gate was opened by the security man and he drove into the house. As soon he came out of his car, a smiling Emma stood beside the car. He grinned broadly. Marrying Emma was one of the smartest things he has ever done in his life. She has been such a blessing in his life. If he had hesitated just slightly, another man would have stolen her from him and he wouldn’t be this happy. “Wow, my lovely darling. You sure know how to catch me unawares,” he said and winked at her. She took his brief case and they kissed. “Ah, this is a sure sign of great things to come, no?” he asked, rubbing his nose against hers gently. “Yes,” she whispered in a sultry voice and gave him another quick kiss. He placed his right arm around her neck as they moved towards the porch. “Phil,” Emma called. “Yes?” “Umm…Sorry, I should have told you about this early on. I invited Nadia over for dinner. You know, she is quite lonely now. Moreover, she is yet to meet you. So…” She halted as she saw his demeanour change. He had a little frown on his face. She touched his cheek. “Phil…” “It’s okay, Nadia. I just wanted us to be alone tonight and go out for dinner. But, since you have prepared food and also invited her over, that’s okay. I hope she leaves right after dinner though,” he said and winked at her. “Well, I would personally ensure that,” she promised. “Thanks sweet.” He smiled at her and they walked hand-in-hand into the living room. He remembered he had spoken briefly on phone with Nadia during the week. He has been out of the office for virtually a week, attending a workshop and coming back to the office late when almost every staff has left. He had promised to speak with her when he is fully back in the office. Perhaps, Nadia had accepted Emma’s dinner invite so she could thank him or something. Geez, he doesn’t need that, does he? All he wants tonight is his wife. Period. They held hands and entered their plush living room. Nadia, who had been going through their family album raised her head when they entered. When he saw her face, he was shocked to the core. His hand tightened slightly and he swallowed hard. His throat suddenly felt dry. For Pete’s sake...who has he just employed? He should at least have asked for a picture of Nadia or something early on. How dumb of him! But, like people say, shit happens sometimes even when you are well-prepared! Nadia rose from the sofa and smiled at them. Emma turned to look at him and he recovered quickly, managing a wan smile. Emma tugged at his hand and they moved towards her. “Nadia, meet my dear husband, Phil. I am introducing him officially to you,” Emma said smiling proudly. Nadia extended her hand towards him and gave him a tight smile. He took her stretched hand out of courtesy for his wife. Nadia avoided his penetrating gaze. Emma started to introduce Nadia. “Phil-,” she began. “Emma, I think we have already met somewhere. So, you don’t need to do any introduction, sweetheart.” He wondered if Emma got the real message he had just sent. He doubted it. She must think he meant seeing Nadia at a programme. She winked at him and poked him playfully on his tummy. “I know where, right? Well, I just wanted to introduce my wonderful husband to her, not as her boss. You know I am super proud of you.” “Yes. So am I, darling,” he confirmed. “Phil, let me get you some water or a drink before dinner,” Emma offered, holding onto his briefcase. “Let me do that Emma. I have to look through a document for a few minutes. I would join you soon. Is that okay?” She nodded and handed the brief case over to him. She stared after him. Nadia smiled secretly. Let’s see what you would do now, Phil. That is if you have the guts, she thought. Later, they had dinner. Emma sat on his right hand and Nadia was on his left. Phil tried his best to avoid looking in Nadia’s direction. Mostly, Emma and Nadia talked as they ate but Phil only chipped in a word or two. He just couldn’t wait for Nadia to leave. After dinner, he excused himself. Emma and Nadia continued with their chat, later their driver took Nadia home. The next day at work, Phil called his secretary on the intercom and asked her to inform Nadia to see him in his office. Minutes later, she was in his office. He was reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad The Conspiracy of the Rich book by Robert Kiyosaki when she entered. Without looking at her, he asked her to sit. He set the book on the table, relaxed in his large leather swivel chair and gave her a pointed look. “I won’t beat about the bush, Nadia. What do you want?” Her smile was charming. “What do I want? Like seriously? I don’t remember the last time someone asked me that. Today must be my lucky day.” She laughed heartily and crossed her legs. “Well, I didn’t know your office was this nice. Well, I’m not surprised. You have impeccable taste.” “Nadia, I haven’t got all day. Just tell me,” he said tartly. She shook her well-manicured right forefinger at him. “Hey, cool it mister. What’s the rush anyway? You are the boss after all. Chill.” “Let me be clear about this. I don’t care how you became Nadia’s friend, but let me advise you. Don’t try to interfere in my marriage. You belong to my past Nadia and that’s how it should be- my former lazy, spoilt and destructive girlfriend. So, back off.” She gave him a thorough lustful look and ran her finger gently around her painted lips. Nadia rose from her chair and placed her hands gently on his desk with her fine, heavy buttocks in the air. “You are a dreamer, Phil. If I can’t have you, neither can Emma. I had you first and I can’t forget you. So, tell me how you want this to go. I don’t mind being your mistress. In fact, I desire that. I don’t want much. I just want half of everything Emma enjoys. Is that too much to ask? Haven’t you missed this delicious body?” He shut his eyes and shook his head. “You must be mad. I don’t go back to what I walk away from, Nadia. Pigs go back to their own vomit; I don’t. I’m no pig.” She let out what sounded like a cruel laugh and clapped her hands in excitement. “Wow, such a decent man, right? I told you earlier on that if I can’t have you, neither can she. If you are a man with balls, go ahead and spill the beans. Guess who would come out of this hurt. You- Mr. Decent Guy. I would make sure you lose her, Phil. After all, I’m destructive,” she threatened. She was seething with rage. He told himself to calm down. If not, he might explode himself. It is said that cooler heads prevail. “Are you done, Nadia?” he asked in a calm voice. “Yes,” she hissed. “I doubt you really came to work. You are fired. Fired!” She chuckled richly. “No problem, brother Phil. Wait till I tell Emma the good news.” He flinched inwardly at her sarcasm. “Out of my office. I would tell her everything myself.” “I see. Let’s see about that,” she sneered. Before he could say Jack, she started taking off her clothes. He rose from his chair in shock and she quickly locked his door. He picked up the phone and called security. By the time he was done, she has torn her bra and some parts of her flimsy under wear. Her hair was in a disheveled state. “Nadia, what the heck do you think you are doing?” “I won’t let you do this to me. You called the security, right?” He ran his hand through his hair. Thank God for giving him such patience. He would probably have dragged her out or do something worse. Where the heck was the security men? He stayed behind his desk still in shock and wondering what she would do next. All of a sudden, just when they heard the shuffling of feet, Nadia began to scream. Her voice was hysterical. “Leave me alone, Phil. Leave me alone, you pig. You want to rape me.” She pushed some of the items on his desk on the floor. “My goodness, Nadia, are you mad?” “Rape. Phil wants to rape me. Please help me!” She began to cry. He moved towards her but halted. She was baiting him. He knew the shuffling of feet might be the security’s. How would he defend himself? “Phil, open the door,” someone outside the door said. He knew that voice too well. It belongs to the only woman in his home. Emma. Fear gripped him. He moved to open the door but Nadia blocked his path. “Don’t do this to me, Nadia,” Phil said calmly, surprising himself. “Emma, Phil tried to rape me,” Nadia shouted, while sobbing. “I know,” Emma said with worry in her voice, ‘please open the door and let’s solve this amicably, okay? You know I love you Nadia and I am a woman too. No man should take us for a ride.” Nadia gave him a triumphant sly smile. “You lost, Phil,” she whispered and turned to open the door. When Nadia opened the door, Emma was standing outside it with two security men. She brushed past Nadia and went to hug her husband tightly. Her eyes were teary as they looked into his. He was flabbergasted. What was going on here? This was the least reaction he had expected from her. She kissed him and touched his cheeks. “Are you okay, Phil?” He could only nod. Emma cast an accusatory look in Nadia’s direction. “Are you satisfied, Nadia? I hope you got what you wanted. Security, please take this mad woman out of this honourable office,” she said calmly. “Don’t bother, Emma. I would do that myself,” Nadia said angrily. “Good. You have no shame.” Nadia shrugged. “I’m reporting that rapist husband of yours to the police.” “Please do. I have enough evidence against you on my phone. Do you want me to play it for you? You can even meet us in court.” “You have not heard the last from me, Phil,” she spat out and walked out of the office, pushing the security men aside. They followed her to ensure she left the premises. Phil smiled weakly at his wife. “Emma, please let me explain what just happened.” “It is ok, Phil. You can tell me about it when we are home. I heard enough before I came in. I wanted to surprise you with lunch but I guess you have to rest a bit from all the drama that had unfolded here today.” Phil sat down, whilst she stood between his legs. She told him that she didn’t have any recording on her phone and he was quite surprised. He wondered what would have happened if Nadia had called off her bluff and asked her to play the recording. Emma told her she would have refused to do that and moreover, Nadia was not that smart to request for that. “Thanks for coming, Emma. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t showed up,” Phil said, his eyes full of appreciation. “I trust you, Phil and you know that,” she said, smiling. “Yes.” She wrapped her arms around him. “Calm down. Let me pamper you a bit. You deserve it.” He nodded and hugged her too. The lunch can wait for now. -THE END
